Paver Cleaning, Re-Sanding & Sealing in the Hudson Valley
Clean, re-sand and seal — the three steps that actually make pavers last

A paver patio does not fade because the stone wears out. It fades because the joint sand washes away, weeds and ants move into the gaps, the pavers start to shift, and organic film dulls the color. Cleaning alone looks great for a season; restoration fixes the cause.
Edge Shines runs the full three-step process: deep clean the surface and joints, re-sand with polymeric sand that hardens and locks the pavers together, then seal to bring back the color and shed stains. Done properly, the patio holds up for years instead of months.
The three-step restoration process
Skipping any step is why most paver cleanings do not last.
- Deep clean: surface film, weeds, moss and old joint debris removed
- Re-sand: polymeric sand swept into every joint and activated so it sets firm
- Seal: penetrating or wet-look sealer to lock in color and repel stains
Why polymeric sand stops weeds and ants
Regular masonry sand washes out with every rainstorm, leaving open joints where weed seeds germinate and ants tunnel. Polymeric sand binds when it is wetted, forming a firm joint that resists washout, blocks growth and holds the pavers in alignment so the pattern stays tight.
Sealed vs unsealed pavers
Sealing deepens the color, makes spills from grilling and pool chemicals far easier to clean up, and slows efflorescence — the chalky white haze that shows on Hudson Valley patios after wet winters. You choose the finish: a natural matte penetrating sealer or a wet-look enhancer.

Paver Restoration FAQs for Hudson Valley homeowners
How long does paver sealing last?
A quality sealer typically holds three to five years in our climate, depending on sun exposure and traffic. Cleaning and re-sanding on that same cycle keeps the patio looking new.
Can you fix sunken or shifted pavers?
Minor settling can often be lifted and re-set during restoration. Large-scale settling usually points to a base problem, and we will tell you if that is what we are seeing rather than sealing over it.
Will restoration remove weeds permanently?
Re-sanding with polymeric sand closes the joints weeds grow through, which dramatically reduces regrowth. Nothing is permanent outdoors, but properly sanded joints stay clear for years.
How long before I can use the patio?
Plan on staying off the surface for about 24 hours after sealing so it cures fully. We will give you an exact window based on the weather that day.
